FS: What is the main principle, idea and inspiration behind your design?
AF: The philosophy of our projects is "TIMELESS" architecture and interior design which is up-to-date and relevant in any time, even in 10, 20, 30 years ... which is future proof and thus ever valuable.
FS: What has been your main focus in designing this work? Especially what did you want to achieve?
AF: To maximize the interaction with the environment, we wanted to create an air image of the house. Therefore, home base is the hollow volume of the basement, and the other two floors are light and airy with lots of glass. Because of this, all the rooms have a good light and views.
FS: What are your future plans for this award winning design?
AF: During the construction we became friends with the customer , so we are going to visit this residence sometimes.
FS: How long did it take you to design this particular concept?
AF: Planning began in 2010 in Moscow and was realized in 2015 in Sochi.
FS: Why did you design this particular concept? Was this design commissioned or did you decide to pursuit an inspiration?
AF: This design was commissioned, but it doesn't mean that there wasn't any inspiration. We were greatly inspired by the location. So, working on this project was full of creativity and pleasure.
FS: What made you design this particular type of work?
AF: We create living environments for people in the form of volumetric and spatial compositions which may be supplemented by accessories, when necessary, but the essence of the space remains the same.
FS: Which design tools did you use when you were working on this project?
AF: First of all, it was sketching, discussing and thinking, than we used special programms such as 3dMax and ArchiCad.
FS: What is the most unique aspect of your design?
AF: The exterior image of the house is totally unique and reminds of the Mobius strip. It is a clear architectural shape of a white strip that flutters in the wind and forms a figure on the one hand and the infinity sign, something fundamental, on the other. The stairs leading to the main entrance are trapezium-shaped and invite you to the house. This shape is dictated by the architecture of the building.
FS: Is your design influenced by data or analytical research in any way? What kind of research did you conduct for making this design?
AF: Yes, before the beginning of the construction, we did some research and studied suitable structures for our project location. The study was focused on the technologies of construction in seismic areas, and opportunities for the realization of its architectural design.
FS: What are some of the challenges you faced during the design/realization of your concept?
AF: One of the problems during the realization of our design was the shipment of the materials. We faced it because of the Sochi 2014 Olympics.
FS: How did you decide to submit your design to an international design competition?
AF: This concept is one of our favorite projects, so we decided to take part in the competition.
