Interview with Prashant Chauhan at Wednesday 27th of April 2016 FS: What is the main principle, idea and inspiration behind your design? PC: 'Deep Simplicity' which is one of the brand mantra as well. FS: What has been your main focus in designing this work? Especially what did you want to achieve? PC: We intended on creating a visual dialogue between the brand and the visitor. Apart from the touch and feel jewellery segment in a private (by invitation only) setting, the intention was to make this stand more welcoming and transparent. FS: What are your future plans for this award winning design? PC: We plan to continue our relationship with the brand to further enhance our role as their design partners. FS: How long did it take you to design this particular concept? PC: We cracked the concept in about 3 hours over two cups of coffee. Once the sketch was done, we worked on the design for about 30 odd days to detail its working. FS: Why did you design this particular concept? Was this design commissioned or did you decide to pursuit an inspiration? PC: This was a commissioned design, and the concept was very much born out of the brands ideology. FS: Is your design being produced or used by another company, or do you plan to sell or lease the production rights or do you intent to produce your work yourself? PC: We have produced this expo stand ourselves at our warehouse. We are open to such concept driven commissioned design and build expo stands. FS: What made you design this particular type of work? PC: An expo stand which can be dismantled and utilised for many expo shows is the need of the hour in todays busy world where each brand looks forward to an exposure at multiple locations with a signature style brand language. FS: Where there any other designs and/or designers that helped the influence the design of your work? PC: Yes Anu Chauhan, worked on this design idea with me to resolve the concept and its overall form. FS: Who is the target customer for his design? PC: Any Brand which looks for a global presence at Trade Shows with a signature style is a customer for this style of design which can be re-assembled. FS: What sets this design apart from other similar or resembling concepts? PC: The Impressive Spider Glazed wall, The glass railing on staircase and the double height foyer space are the main factors that sets this design apart from the other similar concepts. FS: How did you come up with the name for this design? What does it mean? PC: NA FS: Which design tools did you use when you were working on this project? PC: Pencil and Tracing Paper, Further on it was developed on Sketchup to create a virtual model. FS: What is the most unique aspect of your design? PC: The Double Height space which is also framed by a grid marking the extents of the expo stand. FS: Who did you collaborate with for this design? Did you work with people with technical / specialized skills? PC: We did work with Local specialised glazing teams to fabricate the spider-glazed wall. FS: What is the role of technology in this particular design? PC: The design revolves around the idea 'techno-logic' which is clearly seen by the use of iPads for communicating and taking orders. Also the iPads educate the customers about the app available for iOS and Android. FS: Is your design influenced by data or analytical research in any way? What kind of research did you conduct for making this design? PC: The design is influenced by client feedback on their pervious expo stands which were more like a fortress, closed and very private. The idea hence was to open it up to visitors with a warm heart. FS: What are some of the challenges you faced during the design/realization of your concept? PC: The main challenge we faced was the precision required with the glass being used. FS: How did you decide to submit your design to an international design competition? PC: We were very excited to share this design with a wider audience. Also there are not many design competitions which open the scope to an exhibition stand. FS: What did you learn or how did you improve yourself during the designing of this work? PC: We gained a lot of valuable experience working with glass while doing this work. The entire exercise made us aware of the limited scope for errors working in glass. FS: Any other things you would like to cover that have not been covered in these questions? PC: This design is very close to our hearts. The clients placed trust in us to go all out for an exceptional design and gave us a free hand to fabricate this beauty.
