Interview with Gerardo Ríos Altamirano at Wednesday 29th of August 2018 FS: What is the main principle, idea and inspiration behind your design? GR: Inspired in the shapes and mood of the 50´s, this piece of the collection cosmic, emulates the incredible optimistic and progressive mind of the time of astronaut era. Shapes follow the lines of cars and spaceships of that time. FS: What has been your main focus in designing this work? Especially what did you want to achieve? GR: This is part of a collection that should fit into the Scandinavian style spaces, but with a large twist of retrospective shape and style, thinking to inspire optimistic and progressive mentality as a way to escape from the daily routine. FS: What are your future plans for this award winning design? GR: To build a signature brand of design at the highest standard for the world. Bringing furniture and other artifacts from the art (admiration and contemplation) to the interactive and enjoyable daily life of people that wants in their every day objects of interaction, a source of inspiration. FS: How long did it take you to design this particular concept? GR: It begun as a conceptual inspiration in 2015, and from there it was developed several pieces among this one to bring this ideas to this collection. FS: Why did you design this particular concept? Was this design commissioned or did you decide to pursuit an inspiration? GR: As the majority of my designs, this is a design brought to light from a spark of inspiration as a way to communicate myself and share my ideas to create certain conscience mood. FS: Is your design being produced or used by another company, or do you plan to sell or lease the production rights or do you intent to produce your work yourself? GR: For the moment, all my design are produced by my furniture factory at Merida Yucatan. I’m am searching for partners to develop a commercial set of luxury stores for this signature brand and share the product and concepts to make it a team success around the world. FS: What made you design this particular type of work? GR: It is the necessity of communicate my ideas, the passion of create beauty and functionality to inspire people and take them to a more spicy and flavored interaction with their furniture, in this case a bed food bench. FS: Where there any other designs and/or designers that helped the influence the design of your work? GR: It never surge from an influence of any kind from other furniture, jet, it is a fact that I’m a passionate of design and I see very frecuently the best design in the worlsd, one, because I enjoy the great designs with enthusiasm, two, because I live in a dynamic world influenced by concepts and fashions that put some floor to all of us, so we can have a certain starting point to build from ot to diverge from it on purpose FS: How did you come up with the name for this design? What does it mean? GR: The cosmic name comes from a collection inspired in the spacial facade of the 50s and early 60s, and try to describe the optimistic feeling of immense progress that they live in those years, almost everyone watching comics with space images and spaceships everywhere.
