Interview with KEIKO AKATSUKA at Thursday 21st of April 2016 FS: What is the main principle, idea and inspiration behind your design? KA: I designed this product with idea how people can feel power from Moon, space, and mineral resources. FS: What has been your main focus in designing this work? Especially what did you want to achieve? KA: Strength, catchy and unique against other bath salt products. FS: What are your future plans for this award winning design? KA: Expanding the market of this product over the other countries and world where has different cultures. FS: How long did it take you to design this particular concept? KA: Idea came up kind of quick. So maybe 2 weeks or so. FS: Why did you design this particular concept? Was this design commissioned or did you decide to pursuit an inspiration? KA: Actually it is commissioned. But my client let me free to design with my inspiration. FS: Is your design being produced or used by another company, or do you plan to sell or lease the production rights or do you intent to produce your work yourself? KA: Yes, I just designed for this product. So my client is producing and putting into market in near future. FS: Where there any other designs and/or designers that helped the influence the design of your work? KA: No, just by myself. FS: Who is the target customer for his design? KA: All ages between younger and adults. FS: What sets this design apart from other similar or resembling concepts? KA: I think my concept is quite new. FS: How did you come up with the name for this design? What does it mean? KA: SUMO is existed already as a brand name, and SUMO means ''Super Monument''. FS: Which design tools did you use when you were working on this project? KA: Adobe Illustrator FS: What is the most unique aspect of your design? KA: Logo and also linked to the design, used special Japanese traditional paper and unique printing technique. FS: Who did you collaborate with for this design? Did you work with people with technical / specialized skills? KA: No, but I always discussed with my client and printing company. FS: Is your design influenced by data or analytical research in any way? What kind of research did you conduct for making this design? KA: No, my original. FS: What are some of the challenges you faced during the design/realization of your concept? KA: Again, I focused to design this unique and catchy for customers. FS: How did you decide to submit your design to an international design competition? KA: My respected designer was a winner in past competition, that made me to challenge for an international design competition. FS: What did you learn or how did you improve yourself during the designing of this work? KA: Especially, printing technique. I learned many type of printing ways.
