Interview with Ayhan Güneri at Tuesday 17th of March 2015

FS: What is the main principle, idea and inspiration behind your design?
AG: Our main objevtive is to let young people to live the street life in the store. We have prepared three mood boards which consist of themes street art, technology and neotric. Our client decided to use all these three options.

FS: What has been your main focus in designing this work? Especially what did you want to achieve?
AG: We focused on young people to enjoy the time they have spent in the store.

FS: What are your future plans for this award winning design?
AG: To promote A.Design Awards competition and brands award wining store via internet, press, tv and social media.

FS: How long did it take you to design this particular concept?
AG: Designing of the concept took one month and development of the concept took approximately 7 months. Other than that project application took 3 weeks.

FS: Why did you design this particular concept? Was this design commissioned or did you decide to pursuit an inspiration?
AG: Our client asked us to prepare a new era retail concept to provide their needs and to define embodied brands.

FS: Is your design being produced or used by another company, or do you plan to sell or lease the production rights or do you intent to produce your work yourself?
AG: This designing prepared in a flexibility that it can be used in different sizes. It has been used in two stores in Istanbul so far which are 180 and 360 squaremeters.

FS: What made you design this particular type of work?
AG: We prepared this design based on our clients requests.

FS: Where there any other designs and/or designers that helped the influence the design of your work?
AG: Streets and trends are what gave our design a way.

FS: Who is the target customer for his design?
AG: Young people and people who prefers young lifestyle.

FS: What sets this design apart from other similar or resembling concepts?
AG: It has a different creative approach and this increases curiosity of potential customers.

FS: How did you come up with the name for this design? What does it mean?
AG: SIS APPLICATION basically refers to the application process of Sport in Street.

FS: Which design tools did you use when you were working on this project?
AG: During the designing and project process we have used Autocad, 3ds max, Corel and traditional designing methods.

FS: What is the most unique aspect of your design?
AG: The fact that street and street culture are well reflected in the store.

FS: Who did you collaborate with for this design? Did you work with people with technical / specialized skills?
AG: Brand designer, graficers and street artists.

FS: What is the role of technology in this particular design?
AG: During the furniture productions cnc s supported by computers, big size rgb led screends, at the exterior of the shop rgb led lineer screens, image reflecting mirrors with camera systems, high volumed sound systems.

FS: Is your design influenced by data or analytical research in any way? What kind of research did you conduct for making this design?
AG: Interests and trends of young people and importance of social media in their lives are researched and the we have decided what kind of a store they would like to be shopping.

FS: What are some of the challenges you faced during the design/realization of your concept?
AG: Sport in Street is a multibrand store and currently it embodies 32 brands. As each different brand needs to present their own identity, forming Sport in Streets' its own identity was the hardest part of the concept.

FS: How did you decide to submit your design to an international design competition?
AG: Sport in Street is on its way to become an international brand and the company is planning to open a lot of stores outside of Turkey thus we decided that it will be important for this brand to involve in an international competition.

FS: What did you learn or how did you improve yourself during the designing of this work?
AG: It was quite exciting and enjoyable to try to figure out which way is the best way to give realistic results as we are trying to make the street alive in the store.

FS: Any other things you would like to cover that have not been covered in these questions?
AG: The first store of Sport in Street was opened in Istanbul Özdilek Shopping Center, October2014. Some of the owners of 32 embodied brands observed the store. It really made us proud to see that in the following months those brands used some of the designing ideas.
