Interview with Danilo Olim at Monday 14th of April 2014 FS: What is the main principle, idea and inspiration behind your design? DO: transform the wall and a bookcase shelf on a wall FS: What has been your main focus in designing this work? Especially what did you want to achieve? DO: My target audience are urban people with sometimes small spaces where the multiplicity of solutions are always an important part FS: What are your future plans for this award winning design? DO: My plans are to disclose the brand in the best you can to make other parts that develop for home FS: How long did it take you to design this particular concept? DO: This project took about a year, with several prototypes until you reach the final solution FS: Why did you design this particular concept? Was this design commissioned or did you decide to pursuit an inspiration? DO: I did decided to develop this solution, and then present to the public FS: Is your design being produced or used by another company, or do you plan to sell or lease the production rights or do you intent to produce your work yourself? DO: I intend to continue designing for my brand FS: Where there any other designs and/or designers that helped the influence the design of your work? DO: modernism and minimalism greatly influence my projects FS: Who is the target customer for his design? DO: an urban population FS: What sets this design apart from other similar or resembling concepts? DO: I know of no similar concept. q I think is a very different project from the existing FS: How did you come up with the name for this design? What does it mean? DO: the names of my projects are always numbers. see my creation as a laboratory of ideas where I'm giving random numbers for projects that will create FS: Which design tools did you use when you were working on this project? DO: used 2D and 3D CAD software to design and troubleshoot details and then full-scale mockups FS: What is the most unique aspect of your design? DO: duplicity of solutions in the same part is a feature in some of my projects FS: Who did you collaborate with for this design? Did you work with people with technical / specialized skills? DO: Always work with a factory to understand the issues of hardware and material strength FS: What is the role of technology in this particular design? DO: cad drawing and laser cutting is essential given the piece to have minimal distances FS: Is your design influenced by data or analytical research in any way? What kind of research did you conduct for making this design? DO: I drew a lot and researched about the strength of materials FS: What are some of the challenges you faced during the design/realization of your concept? DO: reduce the number of plans is strictly necessary FS: How did you decide to submit your design to an international design competition? DO: to submit my piece to an international jury and to disclose it to the public
