Interview with Katsumi Tamura at Tuesday 15th of April 2014 FS: What is the main principle, idea and inspiration behind your design? KT: Life, Nature and City etc. ― all thing's shapes and colors surrounding myself. FS: What has been your main focus in designing this work? Especially what did you want to achieve? KT: My designs focus on making a user happy and affluent. FS: What are your future plans for this award winning design? KT: I want many people to know our products. Besides, I'm glad that fun of our products increase by taking advantage of this awards. FS: How long did it take you to design this particular concept? KT: 4 months FS: Is your design being produced or used by another company, or do you plan to sell or lease the production rights or do you intent to produce your work yourself? KT: No. FS: What sets this design apart from other similar or resembling concepts? KT: This is designed as functional, beautiful and joyful calendar for corporate promotion. FS: How did you come up with the name for this design? What does it mean? KT: It is easy to understand, and has quite impact. FS: Which design tools did you use when you were working on this project? KT: Adobe Illustrator FS: What is the most unique aspect of your design? KT: It is a unique calendar with 12 pockets. FS: Who did you collaborate with for this design? Did you work with people with technical / specialized skills? KT: Executive Creative Director: Motohisa Suzuki, Creative Director: Kunio Maeda / Takuya Okamoto, Producer: Tomoko Ito, Art Director: Katsumi Tamura, Designer: Takahiro Sugawara, Copywriter: Toshiyuki Nagamatsu and Printing Director: Osami Gondaira FS: What is the role of technology in this particular design? KT: Our designs and products are supported by precision paper processing technologies. FS: What are some of the challenges you faced during the design/realization of your concept? KT: I challenge to bring out character and potential of paper. FS: How did you decide to submit your design to an international design competition? KT: I choose competitions which are operated sincerely, and promise a sound effect by getting award. FS: Any other things you would like to cover that have not been covered in these questions? KT: No.
