Interview with Manuela Hardy at Monday 14th of April 2014 FS: What is the main principle, idea and inspiration behind your design? MH: The inspiration behind the design is sedimentology beeing a mining museum. FS: What has been your main focus in designing this work? Especially what did you want to achieve? MH: My main focus was having the Natural light to get into the building by angling the windowsurfaces the best way possible towards the sky. FS: What are your future plans for this award winning design? MH: To make my name known and to get to design many interesting New Projects. FS: How long did it take you to design this particular concept? MH: About 1 year. FS: Why did you design this particular concept? Was this design commissioned or did you decide to pursuit an inspiration? MH: The inspiration came With the program and is orriginally an architectcompetition wich I did not participate in. It is my final diploma as an architect student. FS: Is your design being produced or used by another company, or do you plan to sell or lease the production rights or do you intent to produce your work yourself? MH: My design is not being produced by another Company nor myself yet. I would like to sell the design to the right Company/person. FS: What made you design this particular type of work? MH: The urge to create somthing New. FS: Where there any other designs and/or designers that helped the influence the design of your work? MH: I had a supervisor to help me. But the design and concept are mine. FS: Who is the target customer for his design? MH: Property Developers and Entrepreneurs. FS: What sets this design apart from other similar or resembling concepts? MH: The form and location. FS: How did you come up with the name for this design? What does it mean? MH: The name comes from melted stone, magma. It also has the Word rama in it to describe the view wich has many angles. FS: Which design tools did you use when you were working on this project? MH: In the beginning sketches by hand and models of clay and paper. Later on Archicads student Version and InDesign. FS: What is the most unique aspect of your design? MH: The 2 building structures and how they interact and the form of the building. FS: Who did you collaborate with for this design? Did you work with people with technical / specialized skills? MH: My supervisor S. Nielsen FS: What is the role of technology in this particular design? MH: Sustainibility by using as much materials from the given location as possible. Also using the roof as solar panels. FS: Is your design influenced by data or analytical research in any way? What kind of research did you conduct for making this design? MH: I did Research in sedimentology and rock science. FS: What are some of the challenges you faced during the design/realization of your concept? MH: How to Place the building relating to the surrounding Mountains. FS: How did you decide to submit your design to an international design competition? MH: The design got very good feedback from sensors at the exams, that why I wanted to share my work. FS: What did you learn or how did you improve yourself during the designing of this work? MH: How to use sustainibility and the right materials for a Project, and using light in the best possible way to create a godd environment. FS: Any other things you would like to cover that have not been covered in these questions? MH: No.
