Interview with Fabrizio Constanza at Sunday 20th of April 2014

FS: What is the main principle, idea and inspiration behind your design?
FC: The inspiration on this piece is most definitely the Auto and Moto aficionados. The design combines Greg Jacobs’s immense knowledge of race car construction and Fabrizio Constanza’s ability to combine materials and shapes to create sensations on the collectors.

FS: What has been your main focus in designing this work? Especially what did you want to achieve?
FC: In this piece we are getting into the subconscious of the Collector, mainly those memories of comfort, freedom, and tranquility of being on the road just motoring.

FS: What are your future plans for this award winning design?
FC: Produce them at the clients specifications, certified them and enjoy the ride.

FS: How long did it take you to design this particular concept?
FC: This concept has being on the drawing board for many years. Last year I talk to Greg about re-taking it and here it is now an awarded design.

FS: Why did you design this particular concept? Was this design commissioned or did you decide to pursuit an inspiration?
FC: This concept is pure inspiration.

FS: Is your design being produced or used by another company, or do you plan to sell or lease the production rights or do you intent to produce your work yourself?
FC: We sale directly to clients.

FS: What made you design this particular type of work?
FC: As I mention before, Greg and I designed this long ago, now we could come back to finished. for me was important becouse I got to work with an long time designer friend.

FS: Where there any other designs and/or designers that helped the influence the design of your work?
FC: no, just race car manufacturing process

FS: Who is the target customer for his design?
FC: High profile collectors

FS: What sets this design apart from other similar or resembling concepts?
FC: This are made one by one, the collectors know exactly who was involve in the build. Just like a racer knows who work in his car.

FS: How did you come up with the name for this design? What does it mean?
FC: KSD-1 Stands for a company name we had created with Greg back in College times. We thought about opening a design Studio. Horizon is the new name.

FS: Which design tools did you use when you were working on this project?
FC: Sketching, coreldraw, modeling, prototyping, upholstery prototyping, dhl, e-mail.

FS: What is the most unique aspect of your design?
FC: form and production style

FS: Who did you collaborate with for this design? Did you work with people with technical / specialized skills?
FC: race car builder, carpenters, machine shops, metal workers, upholstery artisans.

FS: What is the role of technology in this particular design?
FC: Technology is important for the design process, but we like to produce in Guatemala, so we can help artisans. So we are more into good quality hand crafters.

FS: Is your design influenced by data or analytical research in any way? What kind of research did you conduct for making this design?
FC: The research starts once the main objective is set. In this specific case, Greg did the manufacturing research, I did the psychological one.

FS: What are some of the challenges you faced during the design/realization of your concept?
FC: adjusting rhe main shape or form of the chair to the ergonomics of a lounge chair
