Musketeers Stools by Rachelle Dagñalan

Home > Winners > Design #28648 >Interview
Editor Frank Scott (FS) from DesignPRWire has interviewed designer Rachelle Dagñalan (RD) for A' Design Awards and Competition. You can access the full profile of Rachelle Dagñalan by clicking here. Access more information about the award winning design Musketeers here.

Interview with Rachelle Dagñalan at Sunday 7th of April 2013

FS: What is the main principle, idea and inspiration behind your design?
RD: I usually get design inspirations from nature, everyday objects and forms that catch my eye, then I turn them into something useful. The inspiration for Musketeers came from an unusual wireframe streetlight.

FS: What has been your main focus in designing this work? Especially what did you want to achieve?
RD: Combine function with art, bold yet simple.

FS: What are your future plans for this award winning design?
RD: Musketeers is soon to be prototyped, and will be available for purchase soon.

FS: How long did it take you to design this particular concept?
RD: I would take note of an idea the moment it gets to my head. Sketch it or do it in 3d, visualize it. Then turn it to its tangible form.

FS: Why did you design this particular concept? Was this design commissioned or did you decide to pursuit an inspiration?
RD: Inspirations move us. I just got inspired then got the urge to make it.

FS: Is your design being produced or used by another company, or do you plan to sell or lease the production rights or do you intent to produce your work yourself?
RD: I plan to get it manufactured and be available to the market soon.

FS: How did you come up with the name for this design? What does it mean?
RD: The name Musketeers, came from the classics, "The Three Musketeers." The stools have three legs, and are available in three colors, red, black, and white.

FS: What is the most unique aspect of your design?
RD: Seldom do we see stools with cushioned top, body in sturdy metal, and balances in three legs. The Musketeers has all three.

FS: What are some of the challenges you faced during the design/realization of your concept?
RD: One challenge is how to keep the stool sturdy with only three legs. The material selection and technical aspects of it play an important role.

FS: How did you decide to submit your design to an international design competition?
RD: To be recognized internationally would be a great honor. Plus, you'll get to know how your designs will be appreciated from a global perspective. Getting a design award is a bonus and I am grateful for that!

FS: Thank you for providing us with this opportunity to interview you.
