Editor Frank Scott (FS) from DesignPRWire has interviewed designer Fabrizio Constanza (FC) for A' Design Awards and Competition. You can access the full profile of Fabrizio Constanza by clicking here. Access more information about the award winning design organica here.

Interview with Fabrizio Constanza at Sunday 17th of February 2013

FS: What is the main principle, idea and inspiration behind your design?
FC: I was given total liberty of creation for this project. My father is a Plastic Surgeon, so I decided to base my design in the Human Body.

FS: What has been your main focus in designing this work? Especially what did you want to achieve?
FC: I wanted to eliminate the conception of the table being four legs and a top. If the legs are thought out just as on their stability function, then you can find infinite ways to give stability to the table.

FS: What are your future plans for this award winning design?
FC: Well this is a design collectable.

FS: How long did it take you to design this particular concept?
FC: Design did not take so long, about three weeks, prototyping and manufacturing was another story.

FS: Why did you design this particular concept? Was this design commissioned or did you decide to pursuit an inspiration?
FC: This particular design was commissioned. I have been working for three years for this particular client designing art mounting solutions for his collection of sculptures, so I have a good feeling of his taste on art.

FS: Is your design being produced or used by another company, or do you plan to sell or lease the production rights or do you intent to produce your work yourself?
FC: This is a collectable, but my client and I would sure negotiate a licence.

FS: What made you design this particular type of work?
FC: I like art and furniture

FS: Where there any other designs and/or designers that helped the influence the design of your work?
FC: No

FS: Who is the target customer for his design?
FC: Collectors that want to ensure its investment grow.

FS: What sets this design apart from other similar or resembling concepts?
FC: I have not seen anything similar.

FS: How did you come up with the name for this design? What does it mean?
FC: Organica means organic in Spanish. It seemed right for the project.

FS: Which design tools did you use when you were working on this project?
FC: Most important great communication with my manufacturing suppliers then lots of Sketching paper, pens, Corel Draw, 3D Max, Autocad, cardboard.

FS: What is the most unique aspect of your design?
FC: Every part needs of the others to do the job.

FS: Who did you collaborate with for this design? Did you work with people with technical / specialized skills?
FC: Once I have an idea of what I want to produce, I call my suppliers and meet with them. They make my designs possible. I enjoy very much the brain storming with expert suppliers.

FS: What is the role of technology in this particular design?
FC: Technology is an interesting issue in Guatemala. This piece is all handmade.

FS: Is your design influenced by data or analytical research in any way? What kind of research did you conduct for making this design?
FC: The knowledge that in the humanbody all elements are essential for its functionality.

FS: What are some of the challenges you faced during the design/realization of your concept?
FC: The metal rod twisting, even though the 3D showed well, I spent six hours looking at all the axes of view to ensure a balanced omposition.

FS: How did you decide to submit your design to an international design competition?
FC: The piece is unique, should be seen by others.

FS: What did you learn or how did you improve yourself during the designing of this work?
FC: Always remember the basics.

FS: Any other things you would like to cover that have not been covered in these questions?
FC: Not that I can think about it.

FS: Thank you for providing us with this opportunity to interview you.
