Interview with Chih Wen Chaw at Saturday 9th of March 2013 FS: What is the main principle, idea and inspiration behind your design? CC: Office with a touch of domesticity FS: What has been your main focus in designing this work? Especially what did you want to achieve? CC: The main focus was to design a fully funtioning space for work but through the planning of spatial relationships and use of materials , a sense of "home" is injected. This is in line with the core competence of the Client who are boutique developers in the fields of residential and hospitality. FS: What are your future plans for this award winning design? CC: NA FS: How long did it take you to design this particular concept? CC: 1.5 months FS: Why did you design this particular concept? Was this design commissioned or did you decide to pursuit an inspiration? CC: It was a mix of the client's vision in their own business model as well as our impetus to question conventional office spaces. Commisioned by Client FS: Is your design being produced or used by another company, or do you plan to sell or lease the production rights or do you intent to produce your work yourself? CC: NA FS: What made you design this particular type of work? CC: A belief that an office space should be more humanistic FS: Where there any other designs and/or designers that helped the influence the design of your work? CC: NA FS: Who is the target customer for his design? CC: NA FS: What sets this design apart from other similar or resembling concepts? CC: A spatial design that balances between Client's vision and personal design ethos FS: How did you come up with the name for this design? What does it mean? CC: NA FS: Which design tools did you use when you were working on this project? CC: Auto Cad , 3D max FS: What is the most unique aspect of your design? CC: A unique spatial rearrangment to re define an office space while paying close attention to their everyday needs. FS: Who did you collaborate with for this design? Did you work with people with technical / specialized skills? CC: NA FS: What is the role of technology in this particular design? CC: NA FS: Is your design influenced by data or analytical research in any way? What kind of research did you conduct for making this design? CC: NA FS: What are some of the challenges you faced during the design/realization of your concept? CC: Getting the builders to build certain details to our specifications FS: How did you decide to submit your design to an international design competition? CC: I have always been interested in competitions FS: What did you learn or how did you improve yourself during the designing of this work? CC: To be able to change one's details to the capabilities of the contractor wthout loosing the main design vision.
