Interview with Jeffrey Klug at Monday 11th of March 2013 FS: What is the main principle, idea and inspiration behind your design? JK: It solves a very contemporary problem. It used to be that a TV sat on a table and the audio system sat on a shelf somewhere. All these electronic components in a home have changes shape and moved around next to each other and there isn't a piece a furniture fro all of it so that it doesn't look haphazard and disheveled. FS: What has been your main focus in designing this work? Especially what did you want to achieve? JK: Well I didn't want it to look like an electronic component, I wanted it to be domestic, a piece of furniture that you would be proud of but not be out of place with electronics. FS: What are your future plans for this award winning design? JK: I's love to see it sold more widely. FS: Why did you design this particular concept? Was this design commissioned or did you decide to pursuit an inspiration? JK: I had a client that saw teh same problem I did an dI designed it for him. FS: Is your design being produced or used by another company, or do you plan to sell or lease the production rights or do you intent to produce your work yourself? JK: I intend to offer it to my clients, no larger plans at the moment. FS: Where there any other designs and/or designers that helped the influence the design of your work? JK: Yes, I had been thinking about a whole line of furniture based on this concept. FS: Who is the target customer for his design? JK: Anyone who own a lot of AV equipment but hates to see it in a pile. FS: What is the most unique aspect of your design? JK: Its materiality FS: Who did you collaborate with for this design? Did you work with people with technical / specialized skills? JK: I worked with a fantastic craftsman who understood the bamboo plywood extremely well. FS: What is the role of technology in this particular design? JK: It is made with pretty low tech tools, yet it holds pretty high tech objects. FS: Is your design influenced by data or analytical research in any way? What kind of research did you conduct for making this design? JK: No FS: How did you decide to submit your design to an international design competition? JK: A lot of people liked it
