Interview with Tay Meng Kiat Nicholas at Friday 8th of March 2013

FS: What is the main principle, idea and inspiration behind your design?
NT: Simplicity with a sense of elegance.

FS: What are your future plans for this award winning design?
NT: I have intend to manufacture it worldwide and hope to share the product with every cyclist.

FS: How long did it take you to design this particular concept?
NT: About a year

FS: Why did you design this particular concept? Was this design commissioned or did you decide to pursuit an inspiration?
NT: I was cycling along this particular street where there is alot of cars. Finding it hard to signal and filter out to the right lane so that i could make a right turn at the junction. I decide to come out with this design.

FS: Is your design being produced or used by another company, or do you plan to sell or lease the production rights or do you intent to produce your work yourself?
NT: I have intent to produce my work myself.

FS: Who is the target customer for his design?
NT: Currently this version is for mountain bikes.

FS: What sets this design apart from other similar or resembling concepts?
NT: Integrated Signalling System

FS: How did you come up with the name for this design? What does it mean?
NT: Most bike brands are rather rough feel so i decided that this design should sound rough and durable too. I went to the urban dictionary and stumble upon the word reggal. It has the meaning "the opposite of a lagger" which also fulfilled my thought of making this product a fast reaction product that could save someone's life.

FS: Is your design influenced by data or analytical research in any way? What kind of research did you conduct for making this design?
NT: Its more of a down-to-earth experience i would say. You really have to be a cyclist to know what you need when you are on the road.

FS: How did you decide to submit your design to an international design competition?
NT: I believe sharing the ideas is extremely valuable to others who want to find inspiration. This competition also add on to my future portfolio.

FS: Thank you for providing us with this opportunity to interview you.
