Interview with Simone Valsecchi at Thursday 31st of May 2012

FS: What is the main principle, idea and inspiration behind your design?
SV: the main idea for this design was to create an eyecatching chair to feel also comfortable, funny and colourful taking inspiration from such a simple and everyday using object as the zipper.

FS: What has been your main focus in designing this work? Especially what did you want to achieve?
SV: The main focus was to put the zipper in armony with the design of the chair and make people feel as if they could "wear it" as if it was a dress.

FS: What are your future plans for this award winning design?
SV: I have no plans for the moment;just want to finish my design studies.

FS: How long did it take you to design this particular concept?
SV: It took me almost a month and a half but has been a period of such intense researches, brainstorming, design thinking and developing;it has been like a longer and more intensive university workshop.

FS: Why did you design this particular concept? Was this design commissioned or did you decide to pursuit an inspiration?
SV: I've been suggested to design a chair and i liked the idea very much because i never did it before so i started working hard on the developement of some ideas.

FS: Is your design being produced or used by another company, or do you plan to sell or lease the production rights or do you intent to produce your work yourself?
SV: I'm just keeping it as a design possibility for the future but at the moment I prefer to give precedence to my design studies.

FS: What made you design this particular type of work?
SV: I developed several ideas for the design of a chair and then I chose the one that was feeling better with the main target I was giving to my research.

FS: Where there any other designs and/or designers that helped the influence the design of your work?
SV: I've been visiting salone del mobile all the exhibition long in order to take contact with contemporary design trends so maybe they are a lot but i cannot tell with precision.

FS: Who is the target customer for his design?
SV: I think it would be a person that sometimes likes to see things with the eyes of a child. The design of the chair wants to pick people's curiosity, which is the principle characteristic of children's behaviour.

FS: What sets this design apart from other similar or resembling concepts?
SV: It think it is the zipper itself which gives the design a particular and gamesome feature.

FS: How did you come up with the name for this design? What does it mean?
SV: The chair is this time designed not only to be sit on but makes the user in the condition to make some further moovementes so I decided to link this with the name of the chair.

FS: What is the most unique aspect of your design?
SV: I think that the most unique aspect of this design stands in the zipper system which wants to be the most eyecatching feature of the chair.

FS: Is your design influenced by data or analytical research in any way? What kind of research did you conduct for making this design?
SV: Most of the research i made was to try to feel what does contemporary design mean to people;why should they be interested in it and what should push them supporting it and passionating in it.

FS: Thank you for providing us with this opportunity to interview you.
