Interview with Güneş Duman Gürbüz at Sunday 19th of May 2024

FS: What is the main principle, idea and inspiration behind your design?
GD: While strolling on a shore, I wished for the water to touch not only my life but also the lives of all living beings. I realized that the curtains between me and myself began to fade with the energy of the water and I have lived my whole life feeling the presence of the energy of water. I believed that the establishment of my dream spaces in places where water lives provides a healing balance and I realized my award-winning design, The Healer Waves, with the hope that it would inspire people.

FS: What has been your main focus in designing this work? Especially what did you want to achieve?
GD: I thought that I exist in spaces that are intertwined with nature. I didn't want to disconnect from the outside world while living indoors. This was my focus that provided my motivation to work.

FS: What are your future plans for this award winning design?
GD: My first goal is to bring the space I have drawn to life and to encourage people to bring such designs to life.

FS: How long did it take you to design this particular concept?
GD: In addition to a period of 2 months, my entire working life and my whole dream world.

FS: Why did you design this particular concept? Was this design commissioned or did you decide to pursuit an inspiration?
GD: This is a design that was created by following a source of inspiration, and I create all my designs, commissioned or not, by drawing strength from a source of inspiration.

FS: Is your design being produced or used by another company, or do you plan to sell or lease the production rights or do you intent to produce your work yourself?
GD: It will not be used or produced by another company. I plan to sell or lease the production rights; however, I am in negotiations with a clinic owner; if positive, I plan to produce it myself at the first opportunity.

FS: What made you design this particular type of work?
GD: I think my designs are good in this field and I want to inspire other designers globally.

FS: Where there any other designs and/or designers that helped the influence the design of your work?
GD: There is no specific design or designer that has influenced this design, but there are designers or designs that I consider to be my source of inspiration in general.

FS: Who is the target customer for his design?
GD: The target group is primarily dentists and all customers interested in design.

FS: What sets this design apart from other similar or resembling concepts?
GD: The fact that it is inspired by nature and the form and structure of the areas that make up the space in connection with the concept, the textures, materials and the presence of water in the space make this design different from other designs.

FS: How did you come up with the name for this design? What does it mean?
GD: I named it The Healer Waves because of the healing effect of the water on me, healing and calming state of water.

FS: Which design tools did you use when you were working on this project?
GD: Firstly, I made sketches with hand drawings on the concept, and then I finalised the design through a computer programme.

FS: What is the most unique aspect of your design?
GD: The first impression, simple, fresh and serene are the most important features that make the design unique. Because the emotions that each person feels in nature are unique.

FS: Who did you collaborate with for this design? Did you work with people with technical / specialized skills?
GD: I used my own technical knowledge and expertise for the design. In the future, I plan to implement it with my technically expert teams.

FS: What is the role of technology in this particular design?
GD: I used high-resolution screens mounted on the walls to create the aura of the environment. These screens, which can be used for various purposes, can sometimes be an ocean; sometimes they can be used for clinic-related needs; such as waiting lists, doctors' availability plan table.

FS: What are some of the challenges you faced during the design/realization of your concept?
GD: When ideas don't come easily, it is difficult for them to take the form of a concept, and in order to use your inspiration effectively, you need to transfer your thoughts into the design. This can sometimes be difficult. This requires constant active thinking.

FS: How did you decide to submit your design to an international design competition?
GD: Design is a part of my life and the most beautiful tool that allows me to communicate. I thought it was a good opportunity to get together with people, to meet them, to interact with new ideas in the fields of art and design, and I decided to participate in the competition.

FS: What did you learn or how did you improve yourself during the designing of this work?
GD: This process made a great benefit to me in terms of both professional and personal development. It motivated me to use new technologies and research materials in my field.

FS: Any other things you would like to cover that have not been covered in these questions?
GD: This competition is very nice and it is incredibly enjoyable to be a part of it. Receiving an award after participating also increases this pleasure significantly.

FS: Thank you for providing us with this opportunity to interview you.
