Interview with Jui-Ping Lee at Thursday 24th of October 2024 FS: What is the main principle, idea and inspiration behind your design? JL: The holy grail it to make the work beautiful. FS: What has been your main focus in designing this work? Especially what did you want to achieve? JL: Make beautiful works. Make works that when people see it, they can easily feel the breeze in the painting, the sunshine from it, the scent that flows around, and want to go into the world of the painting to sit in there, to interact with objects in there FS: How long did it take you to design this particular concept? JL: 40 hours, I recall. FS: Why did you design this particular concept? Was this design commissioned or did you decide to pursuit an inspiration? JL: Because I think if I draw this it will be beautiful, so I draw! FS: Is your design being produced or used by another company, or do you plan to sell or lease the production rights or do you intent to produce your work yourself? JL: Sure if people wish to buy the usage right of my work...why not? FS: What made you design this particular type of work? JL: The goddess of Muse is capricious. FS: Where there any other designs and/or designers that helped the influence the design of your work? JL: Yes, some...but I can't remember which ones. FS: Who is the target customer for his design? JL: Everyone. FS: What sets this design apart from other similar or resembling concepts? JL: I don't know, nor do I care...I on;y want to make beautiful works. If it is distinguished amongst similar works, the beholders know why. FS: How did you come up with the name for this design? What does it mean? JL: Because it's simply at new year period? FS: Which design tools did you use when you were working on this project? JL: Easy Paint Tool SAI 2.0 FS: What is the most unique aspect of your design? JL: I...actually don't know what's unique about my works as I never seek uniqueness, but beauty. The work realised may be unique to the eyes of the beholder, but I wouldn't know that. FS: Who did you collaborate with for this design? Did you work with people with technical / specialized skills? JL: No, I create it solely on my own. FS: What is the role of technology in this particular design? JL: It's drawn on a computer so you can say that without a computer, the whole thing won't even incarnate... FS: Is your design influenced by data or analytical research in any way? What kind of research did you conduct for making this design? JL: No. FS: What are some of the challenges you faced during the design/realization of your concept? JL: Coloring, how to make the best combination of colors. FS: How did you decide to submit your design to an international design competition? JL: Because the competition emailed me an invitation to participate? FS: What did you learn or how did you improve yourself during the designing of this work? JL: That's a hard one...I usually feel stagnated during creation because it's like when you are taking an exam, you just answer questions out of your knowledge you possess on the spot. You learn and grow outside the situation of creating/taking exams.
