Interview with Emel Balcı at Monday 20th of May 2024 FS: What is the main principle, idea and inspiration behind your design? EB: İ always get inspired of my customers İ need to know every single details about people who will live in that project FS: What has been your main focus in designing this work? Especially what did you want to achieve? EB: My first aim was to be uniqe in design , i wanted to surprise people with the design and see the smile of happiness to have this house FS: What are your future plans for this award winning design? EB: İ want more awards , i want to design lots of projects all over the world FS: How long did it take you to design this particular concept? EB: İt took 1 month to design this project FS: Why did you design this particular concept? Was this design commissioned or did you decide to pursuit an inspiration? EB: My customer told me that they hate fabric curtains and need something different except fabric And i then decided the wood sliding curtain system FS: Is your design being produced or used by another company, or do you plan to sell or lease the production rights or do you intent to produce your work yourself? EB: No its going to be custom made for my customer but i sometimes see other projecets getting inspired of them FS: What made you design this particular type of work? EB: My customers I always say and explain that people who will use what i design, are my most inspiration FS: Where there any other designs and/or designers that helped the influence the design of your work? EB: Sometimes i can get influenced of other projects or designs FS: Who is the target customer for his design? EB: Who loves to live in a uniqe, simple, chiq design house FS: What sets this design apart from other similar or resembling concepts? EB: As i told before the wood sliding curtaian system is the most different part of this design FS: How did you come up with the name for this design? What does it mean? EB: İ used the smilar tones and materials fir the design thats why i called it monochrome FS: Which design tools did you use when you were working on this project? EB: there are lots of tools we use ,everything we need to design FS: What is the most unique aspect of your design? EB: ın my opinion covering the walls and sliding wooden curtains FS: Who did you collaborate with for this design? Did you work with people with technical / specialized skills? EB: yes ı got help from technical people for rendering and design FS: What is the role of technology in this particular design? EB: ıt is a smart house so you can control everything form a commander and mobile phones FS: Is your design influenced by data or analytical research in any way? What kind of research did you conduct for making this design? EB: ıt doesnt infleunced by a spesific research , it came from hearth FS: What are some of the challenges you faced during the design/realization of your concept? EB: there wasnt any challenges in the project because the architectural plans were so reasonable and were enough for our designs FS: How did you decide to submit your design to an international design competition? EB: you saw my project in a magazine and after that your advice i decided to submit my design FS: What did you learn or how did you improve yourself during the designing of this work? EB: every project of mine teaches me new things and aspects every project owner is different characters and teaches us alot FS: Any other things you would like to cover that have not been covered in these questions?
