Interview with Nataliya Naymark at Wednesday 21st of June 2023 FS: What is the main principle, idea and inspiration behind your design? NN: I wanted to raise my ability to put things in oder to it maximum. Think through needs and wants of person in bed. Have a nice book read myself before the sleep. FS: What has been your main focus in designing this work? Especially what did you want to achieve? NN: I wanted to get rid of cables, and bad phone light during sleep. I wanted it to be ergonomically perfect, so that everyone finds a clear space for all belongings we care about before sleep. And mainly I wanted to have free space, which we really need now with the cost of living in big cities. FS: What are your future plans for this award winning design? NN: I plan to sell or lease the production rights. Find a job and sell all my other design. And I really really want to see my things produced. FS: How long did it take you to design this particular concept? NN: It took me around two years. At first it was a small sketch, but as I drew more specific technical drawing, the clearer I had picture in mind. Last interactions were connected mostly with technical aspects, that had to be taken inro consideration . FS: Why did you design this particular concept? Was this design commissioned or did you decide to pursuit an inspiration? NN: I pursuit an inspirations . I had a friend who had problems with robot vacuum cleaners, and I wanted to do something that would solve his problem. Than I came across marvellous work of Dorothee Becker, and I thought what would she has done if it was made nowadays . FS: Is your design being produced or used by another company, or do you plan to sell or lease the production rights or do you intent to produce your work yourself? NN: I plan to sell or lease the production rights. FS: What made you design this particular type of work? NN: Issue with vacuum robots that had one of my friends. Having hard times funding right reading light for myself. Lack of free spaces in many city flats, and mess we all have at our bad table, that can be organised with several pockets. FS: Where there any other designs and/or designers that helped the influence the design of your work? NN: I have professor who teaches me drawing, she has expertness in architecture, graphic design, interiors and art. And she helps me think about technical issues and limits, I might have forgotten of. FS: Who is the target customer for his design? NN: I think TA is working adult living in a city, trying to have 100 and 1 item of belongings. Caring about comfort and good design. Loving having multifunctional things, that can reduce number of things he owns and cares about. Something he will buy now and will have till the end of his life , or might even leaving it to his children. FS: What sets this design apart from other similar or resembling concepts? NN: It has minimal lines and colors, that can suit any interior. I also tried to use latest technical novelties so that it is maximised use of the item. FS: How did you come up with the name for this design? What does it mean? NN: It was inspired by design of a great designer and I anted to honour her name in the name of the objects. As for hand, it is due to its long light function that can reach to any place of your bad or table. FS: Which design tools did you use when you were working on this project? NN: Autocad, Pencils snd paper . FS: What is the most unique aspect of your design? NN: I like that I made this design sustainable and introduced unique colors, that makes this design outstanding with design art properties. FS: Who did you collaborate with for this design? Did you work with people with technical / specialized skills? NN: I didn't collaborate with anybody FS: What is the role of technology in this particular design? NN: It makes it slimmer, ads multifunctional use, and minimises cable distraction . FS: Is your design influenced by data or analytical research in any way? What kind of research did you conduct for making this design? NN: I did focus group where I discussed what kind of things people normally have on their bed table, what find important to be there, and what they can get rid of. FS: What are some of the challenges you faced during the design/realization of your concept? NN: The hand that had light, It's design and length was something I needed to think through several times, as it was not long enough or had problems with rotation. FS: How did you decide to submit your design to an international design competition? NN: As it was already the 4th year of my self education I decided it is time to check whether all of this worth it time and money. It was like a final project to get my degree. I tried to choose something that will be good design on one hand, and something TA would be interested in. FS: What did you learn or how did you improve yourself during the designing of this work? NN: I learned to work with the smallest details in my design, something we forget about while thinking about big picture, but I did care about every rubber thing I have in this design, every curve of each element . FS: Any other things you would like to cover that have not been covered in these questions? NN: No I think we have discussed everything .
