Interview with Akin Budakoglu at Friday 3rd of November 2023

FS: What is the main principle, idea and inspiration behind your design?
AB: As in everything we do, we always try to give more than we can. We knew what our customer wanted as a function when they asked us for an outdoor exercise product family, but we didn't want to be humble about form and details. While the sketches of the project were being studied, I think I eliminated 9 different versions recommended by my team, I remember I wanted something different. Then version 10, a mix of previous versions, came in front of me and I said that's exactly what I was looking for.

FS: What has been your main focus in designing this work? Especially what did you want to achieve?
AB: Since the outdoor is a product, we also wanted it to be a modern object with depth.

FS: What are your future plans for this award winning design?
AB: I hope that it will be shipped all over the world after the ongoing mold production and mass production preparations are finished.

FS: How long did it take you to design this particular concept?
AB: About 4 months I think.

FS: Why did you design this particular concept? Was this design commissioned or did you decide to pursuit an inspiration?
AB: This, like our other works, was custom made by our customer, but I think we went too far this time.

FS: Is your design being produced or used by another company, or do you plan to sell or lease the production rights or do you intent to produce your work yourself?
AB: As with every order business, we have transferred production and sales rights

FS: What made you design this particular type of work?
AB: That we really want it :)

FS: Where there any other designs and/or designers that helped the influence the design of your work?
AB: Of course, my team's place is always separate.

FS: Who is the target customer for his design?
AB: Anyone aged 14 and over who is bored with gyms or wants to do sports outdoors.

FS: What sets this design apart from other similar or resembling concepts?
AB: Definitely the form, I think. The forms of similar products are either very classic or at a level that cannot come alongside Rise-Fit.

FS: How did you come up with the name for this design? What does it mean?
AB: Rise-Fit, as the name suggests, offers a state of fitness and fitness. We tried to reference the status skipping with a new form.

FS: Which design tools did you use when you were working on this project?
AB: Brain and others to think

FS: What is the most unique aspect of your design?
AB: Fluid forms and joint points.

FS: Who did you collaborate with for this design? Did you work with people with technical / specialized skills?
AB: I had all I needed in my team.

FS: What is the role of technology in this particular design?
AB: Although we have used today's accessible technology in its design (tablet sketch, cad programs, prototyping with 3d print, etc.) there will be a wide framework for production. The use of robotic weldings in the welded joints of metal parts, the use of high-end CNC machines to make quality plastic injection and rotation molds, as well as the production of plastic, etc. should definitely be above average.

FS: Is your design influenced by data or analytical research in any way? What kind of research did you conduct for making this design?
AB: Yes, it happened. As a company, we are interested in the sociological side of the subject as we are interested in urban equipment and city individuals. For example, we knew before the distribution, age groups and social status of individuals who do sports outdoors and in the halls. During the pandemic, we witnessed some habits and needs change, which led to a rewriting of some rules. As a designer, it was not difficult to see people's new needs and problems and to develop new solutions to them.

FS: What are some of the challenges you faced during the design/realization of your concept?
AB: I may have forced my team because I wanted some perfection in its design. Since there are too many components and varieties in its realization, I can say that it forced the cost and time of putting them together.

FS: How did you decide to submit your design to an international design competition?
AB: Since I have had this experience many times before, I think I can feel the award now. I felt this in this design and the process started.

FS: What did you learn or how did you improve yourself during the designing of this work?
AB: I learned again that there is nothing wrong with looking for the best, by not accepting a project that is not easy.

FS: Any other things you would like to cover that have not been covered in these questions?
AB: I guess not, thank you so much

FS: Thank you for providing us with this opportunity to interview you.
