Interview with kalbod studio at Wednesday 14th of June 2023 FS: What is the main principle, idea and inspiration behind your design? MR: Creating figurative forms while trying to give each unit a great view of the city and the sea and preserving the privacy of each unit's privacy. FS: What has been your main focus in designing this work? Especially what did you want to achieve? MR: We want to improve the quality of living in this beautiful city and encourage citizens to leave the crowded big cities and migrate to these small cities closer to nature and tranquillity. FS: What are your future plans for this award winning design? MR: We also designed an entertainment center for residents and tourists on a close site to this project to make sure this "Seaside Town" will meet all the needs and dreams of 21st-century citizens. FS: How long did it take you to design this particular concept? MR: We experimented with different forms and shapes for about three months, visiting the project's site and analyzing its pros and cons. FS: Why did you design this particular concept? Was this design commissioned or did you decide to pursuit an inspiration? MR: The figurative forms of Persian dancers inspired us. Still, the limitation the site and culture gave us ended up with these puzzle-like shapes that each create a bigger unit (made out of 4 different types of villas) that if only one of them is removed, the puzzle will lose its coherence. FS: Is your design being produced or used by another company, or do you plan to sell or lease the production rights or do you intent to produce your work yourself? MR: Our design is currently under construction by Kalbod Design Studio's construction department. FS: What made you design this particular type of work? MR: We are focused on User Experience at Kalbod Design Studio. To improve the quality of life for our users, we decided to design an out-of-city place to live, communicate and relax, away from the business of crowded cities. FS: Where there any other designs and/or designers that helped the influence the design of your work? MR: The Iranian dancer's figures inspired us to design each unit's volume. FS: Who is the target customer for his design? MR: Citizens who want to leave the crowded city and live in a calmer and quieter place, in deep connection with nature FS: What sets this design apart from other similar or resembling concepts? MR: The limitation of the cultural requirements in this area was one of the primary rules for this project that led the design process from the beginning. The importance of privacy while providing a great view of the beautiful nature outside was the main challenge in this project, and solving in the shape of each volume sets this project apart from the others. FS: How did you come up with the name for this design? What does it mean? MR: Sorkhroud Seaside Town is a small neighborhood designed in the tourist attraction city of Sorkhroud FS: Which design tools did you use when you were working on this project? MR: Autocad, Rhino, Photoshop, Lumion, Unreal Engine, Twinmotion, Revit, Illustrator FS: What is the most unique aspect of your design? MR: The importance of user experience is the most unique feature of our design; Answering their needs while giving them more to enjoy. FS: Who did you collaborate with for this design? Did you work with people with technical / specialized skills? MR: At Kalbod Design Studio we have a diverse team of experts, from experienced conceptual designers to engineers, constructors, and specialists in different fields of construction and with the help of our amazing team we were able to start the construction phase in 2022. FS: What is the role of technology in this particular design? MR: One of the practical challenges of this project was the fluid form of the interior walls and boundaries. The interior walls followed the curvature of the facade, and using the fluid areas these walls provided was only possible through technology and craftsmanship. FS: Is your design influenced by data or analytical research in any way? What kind of research did you conduct for making this design? MR: Yes, it did in every step. From the site analysis to getting inspiration from the dancer's poses along the way to the construction phase, the entire process was based on research and data analysis to come up with the best response to the project's challenges. FS: What are some of the challenges you faced during the design/realization of your concept? MR: As said before, The importance of preserving privacy due to cultural requirements while providing the best possible view for each unit with floor-to-ceiling windows. The site's climate and water preservation also channeling the possible needs of 21st-century clients to encourage them to leave their apartments in crowded cities and move to Sorkhroud. FS: How did you decide to submit your design to an international design competition? MR: Kalbod Design Studio was familiar with A'Design Awards early on and we were honored with its international prizes in the past two years as well. FS: What did you learn or how did you improve yourself during the designing of this work? MR: every project is a lesson learned for us. This project taught us how to handle the concept and construction and how to communicate with specialists in every field. FS: Any other things you would like to cover that have not been covered in these questions? MR: We just wanted to thank you guys for the amazing opportunities you gave us to showcase our projects.
