Volca Speaker by Esmail Ghadrdani

Home > Winners > Design #129886 >Interview
Editor Frank Scott (FS) from DesignPRWire has interviewed designer Esmail Ghadrdani (EG) for A' Design Awards and Competition. You can access the full profile of Esmail Ghadrdani by clicking here. Access more information about the award winning design Volca here.

Interview with Esmail Ghadrdani at Friday 1st of September 2023

FS: What is the main principle, idea and inspiration behind your design?
EG: I was looking to show the power of sound. "Volca" is inspired by the power of sound. The protrusions on the body and the grooves created on it evoke the power of sound. It seems that the sound is so powerful that it makes the shell move and causes grooves on the body. Like the occurrence of a volcano where the high power of the molten material causes the mountain to crack and the molten material to erupt.

FS: What has been your main focus in designing this work? Especially what did you want to achieve?
EG: The main focus has been on the form, presenting an attractive and unique form while maintaining a meaningful concept.

FS: What are your future plans for this award winning design?
EG: I am currently in negotiations with several sponsors for the production of this product, and I hope that this will happen as soon as possible in the future.

FS: How long did it take you to design this particular concept?
EG: It took almost 4 months to design this product .

FS: Why did you design this particular concept? Was this design commissioned or did you decide to pursuit an inspiration?
EG: This design was not a custom project, and its conceptual idea and source of inspiration led to the creation of a new form.

FS: Is your design being produced or used by another company, or do you plan to sell or lease the production rights or do you intent to produce your work yourself?
EG: It is not finalized yet, and I have some decisions that I will implement in the future.

FS: What sets this design apart from other similar or resembling concepts?
EG: The unique and attractive form of this product can distinguish it from other examples.

FS: How did you come up with the name for this design? What does it mean?
EG: The name of this product is "Volca," derived from the word "volcano." The inspiration behind its name comes from the power of sound and volcanoes, and I have chosen a name that is related to its source of inspiration.

FS: Who did you collaborate with for this design? Did you work with people with technical / specialized skills?
EG: Certainly, consultations have been held with specialized individuals, technical experts, and electrical engineers to ensure that the created form is designed within a specific and logical framework and does not pose any issues for production.

FS: What are some of the challenges you faced during the design/realization of your concept?
EG: Incorporating the concept of sound power into the product was somewhat challenging, but ultimately, this concept was manifested in the outer shell of the product in a way that gives the impression that the power of sound has caused the shell to crack and create grooves on its surface.

FS: How did you decide to submit your design to an international design competition?
EG: Participating in a competition can add credibility to a design and showcase its value. Therefore, I have decided to participate in a competition to demonstrate the quality and worth of the design.

FS: Any other things you would like to cover that have not been covered in these questions?
EG: I believe that design is not always about complex and sophisticated technologies. Sometimes, forms, concepts, and the combination of lines and surfaces can create beauty and showcase the design. Indeed, these subtleties can showcase a good design while maintaining simplicity.

FS: Thank you for providing us with this opportunity to interview you.
