Interview with Lara Kim at Sunday 23rd of May 2021 FS: What is the main principle, idea and inspiration behind your design? LK: This painting is designed to make two groups face each other, and to connect the two groups. It shows confrontation and harmony at the same time. It is not limited to an era. I wanted to talk about the nature of relationships. I was inspired by human relationships and realized ideas in pictures. I understand situations in which individuals and individuals, groups and groups, countries and countries are at odds and conflicts. I think it is natural that many people are hurt by confrontation and conflict and are desperate to protect each other's interests. It causes hatred and fear. But we are connected to each other. The connection is fate. So we confront and collide, but we move in the same direction. When we overcome confrontation and conflict and go in the same direction, we laugh with confidence. FS: What has been your main focus in designing this work? Especially what did you want to achieve? LK: I wanted to express my ideas in a creative way when I realized them in pictures. When expressed in a creative way, my message is delivered well, and it gives me satisfaction. So I did my best to make a creative design. FS: What are your future plans for this award winning design? LK: For the time being, I intend to keep this original work. However, I will find a way to use the design image for the product. FS: How long did it take you to design this particular concept? LK: It took me about two weeks to come up with the design. FS: Why did you design this particular concept? Was this design commissioned or did you decide to pursuit an inspiration? LK: The inspiration made this work. I prefer to be inspired, create a work, and then use it to apply it to a product. FS: Is your design being produced or used by another company, or do you plan to sell or lease the production rights or do you intent to produce your work yourself? LK: This design is not yet being produced or used by another company. I hope my work will be used in a way that rents images. FS: What made you design this particular type of work? LK: I wanted to express various emotions in confrontation and harmony. FS: Where there any other designs and/or designers that helped the influence the design of your work? LK: There is no particularly affected design or architect. FS: Who is the target customer for his design? LK: It is a collector who wants original painting, a company that uses pictorial images for goods, and the end consumer who buys the goods. FS: What sets this design apart from other similar or resembling concepts? LK: This design is an intuitive inspiration. Therefore, it is not easy to understand the message after seeing the picture for the first time, and it can be seen from a different perspective. It rather attracts the viewer's attention. FS: How did you come up with the name for this design? What does it mean? LK: When I tried to draw this picture, I made the name confrontation and harmony. But when the picture was finished, I wanted an easier and more intuitive name. That is the Go Together. God Together has a message that it is confrontational but needs to go together. FS: Which design tools did you use when you were working on this project? LK: I expressed this picture with acrylic paint on the canvas. FS: What is the most unique aspect of your design? LK: The creative representation of the composition and objects is unique. FS: Who did you collaborate with for this design? Did you work with people with technical / specialized skills? LK: I did it alone from beginning to end. FS: What is the role of technology in this particular design? LK: It was only done with acrylic painting. FS: Is your design influenced by data or analytical research in any way? What kind of research did you conduct for making this design? LK: I conceived this design solely by imagination and inspiration. There was no data or analysis study. FS: What are some of the challenges you faced during the design/realization of your concept? LK: I thought a lot about expressing the two opposing groups in a new and unique way. And I also thought about which painting technique to apply. FS: How did you decide to submit your design to an international design competition? LK: I submitted my proposal to the international design competition with the recommendation of design officials. FS: What did you learn or how did you improve yourself during the designing of this work? LK: When imagining a new and unique design, it further developed a way of inducing immersion. FS: Any other things you would like to cover that have not been covered in these questions? LK: Before this contest, I was just an artist who painted intuitively imagined things. However, by submitting to the contest this time, I learned the skills of analyzing and explaining my paintings. I appreciate to a’design award & competition about that.
