Interview with Michele Berdugo at Monday 17th of May 2021

FS: What is the main principle, idea and inspiration behind your design?
MB: Inspiration for the MUNIEXPO design concept derived from the topic of innovation pertaining to Smart Cities.

FS: What has been your main focus in designing this work? Especially what did you want to achieve?
MB: My objective was to create a 3D design to stimulate the imagination of the visitor with the feeling of finding himself in a city of tomorrow.

FS: What are your future plans for this award winning design?
MB: None... It is a finished project.

FS: How long did it take you to design this particular concept?
MB: 3 months

FS: Why did you design this particular concept? Was this design commissioned or did you decide to pursuit an inspiration?
MB: I had to design a fair that had a specific brief: it was up to me to create a creative and unforgettable design for this years' show.

FS: Is your design being produced or used by another company, or do you plan to sell or lease the production rights or do you intent to produce your work yourself?
MB: If there are designers who wish to get inspired by my design...they are free to do so! Otherwise, I have no intention to reuse it nor, sell the production rights.

FS: What made you design this particular type of work?
MB: The topic of the fair is very trendy, environmental, green, urban.... I wanted to create a design that would offer a complete experience to the visitor.

FS: Where there any other designs and/or designers that helped the influence the design of your work?
MB: Yes, Vladi Brodetski who does my 3D representations. We complete each other on each project we work together.

FS: Who is the target customer for his design?
MB: City hall mayors , city developers.

FS: What sets this design apart from other similar or resembling concepts?
MB: It tells a full story! the message is extremely clear and obvious.

FS: How did you come up with the name for this design? What does it mean?
MB: The expo is called MUNIEXPO for exhibitions for municipalities. The trend for these expo topics is going towards sustainability, green cities, smart cities... This is where my title comes from.

FS: Which design tools did you use when you were working on this project?
MB: sketch up, autocade

FS: What is the most unique aspect of your design?
MB: unexpected!

FS: Who did you collaborate with for this design? Did you work with people with technical / specialized skills?
MB: Yes Light engineer architect graphic designer

FS: What is the role of technology in this particular design?
MB: Major role! It is a combination of technology and row materials : led lights, specific material treatment

FS: Is your design influenced by data or analytical research in any way? What kind of research did you conduct for making this design?
MB: none

FS: What are some of the challenges you faced during the design/realization of your concept?
MB: Venues authorization for certain aspects of my design, using materials other than planned for security reasons, giving up one aspect of the design ( this was painful).

FS: How did you decide to submit your design to an international design competition?
MB: I felt very confident about my design and thought it should be exposed...

FS: What did you learn or how did you improve yourself during the designing of this work?
MB: Checking on material availabilities!!
