Interview with Tanya Dunaeva at Saturday 30th of October 2021 FS: What is the main principle, idea and inspiration behind your design? TD: The fashion industry is one of the largest contributors to environmental pollution, the second largest industrial polluter in the world. The dominance of “fast fashion”, when the largest fashion brands organize a race for the speed and cheapness of clothing production, leads to an increase in greenhouse gas emissions, encouraging the production of low-quality clothing with a short cycle of use, to scandals due to poor working conditions. The FAB exhibition tells about design trends in the field of sustainable fashion, about the specific features of ” green ” production within the industry, slow fashion, about the use of organic,” vegan ” (obtained without killing animals) and recycled materials, as well as reveals the environmental problems associated with tailoring. FS: What has been your main focus in designing this work? Especially what did you want to achieve? TD: The aim was to show the idea of sustainability in Fashion industry, reduction of consumption FS: What are your future plans for this award winning design? TD: I would like to nominate it for another award to find potential customer for it FS: How long did it take you to design this particular concept? TD: 2 weeks FS: Why did you design this particular concept? Was this design commissioned or did you decide to pursuit an inspiration? TD: This is a student concept FS: Is your design being produced or used by another company, or do you plan to sell or lease the production rights or do you intent to produce your work yourself? TD: I plan (can) sell or lease the production rights in case of offer FS: What made you design this particular type of work? TD: I was inspired of digital design (Cinema 4D) FS: Where there any other designs and/or designers that helped the influence the design of your work? TD: My tutor Leonid Slavin FS: Who is the target customer for his design? TD: Fashion Industry FS: What sets this design apart from other similar or resembling concepts? TD: Unique lettering. Graphically, the solution is based on a cross-type of a pair of fonts-strictly grotesque and openwork accidental font, resembling the folds of fabric. Openwork letters in a light airy outfit lose it by half, while the functional component is preserved – the grapheme can be read quite easily. FS: How did you come up with the name for this design? What does it mean? TD: FAB = Fabric. The name of Exhibition FS: Which design tools did you use when you were working on this project? TD: Photoshop, Cinema 4D FS: What is the most unique aspect of your design? TD: The accidental font FS: What is the role of technology in this particular design? TD: Cinema 4D helped to make openwork letters that in a light airy outfit lose it by half, while the functional component is preserved – the grapheme can be read quite easily FS: How did you decide to submit your design to an international design competition? TD: Our community at HSE Art & Design School is very ambitious to be open for the World design society FS: What did you learn or how did you improve yourself during the designing of this work? TD: It is a great feeling when you can merge classic and modern techniques to create a new, fresh concept
