Interview with Baran Akalin at Thursday 7th of May 2020 FS: What is the main principle, idea and inspiration behind your design? BA: Next generation and galactic design. Idea is to create most unique and high-tech marine vessel as well as her hull (body) This is the future of marine vessels.Better stability , much faster and low fuel consumption. FS: What has been your main focus in designing this work? Especially what did you want to achieve? BA: Main focus was as timeless as possible. I always want , even after 50 years , design should still giving an inspiration. FS: What are your future plans for this award winning design? BA: To built it. FS: How long did it take you to design this particular concept? BA: The hull is completed with many tries and tests in 25 years, and rest of her took 4 months to design. FS: Why did you design this particular concept? Was this design commissioned or did you decide to pursuit an inspiration? BA: I decide to pursuit an inspiration because I believe this will bring better solutions to the marine industry. FS: Is your design being produced or used by another company, or do you plan to sell or lease the production rights or do you intent to produce your work yourself? BA: We are looking for the builder or client to built her. FS: What made you design this particular type of work? BA: Vision and experience. FS: Where there any other designs and/or designers that helped the influence the design of your work? BA: Hull design/ invention by G. Jelle Bilkert and rest of her exterior and general arrangement is my work. FS: Who is the target customer for his design? BA: Any one who can effort and enjoy the first game changer of the sea. A family and their friends who can travel and stay on the sea about 3 or 4 weeks. FS: What sets this design apart from other similar or resembling concepts? BA: Hull design and hull's benefits. FS: How did you come up with the name for this design? What does it mean? BA: Escalade means ; the scaling of fortified walls using ladders, as a form of military attack. Because I think this design will be raising up to the top and will overshadow others FS: Which design tools did you use when you were working on this project? BA: Autocad , Photohop , Alias surface , V-ray. FS: What is the most unique aspect of your design? BA: Her hull and large areas enough to have similar space with 33 meters yachts on 25 meters. FS: Who did you collaborate with for this design? Did you work with people with technical / specialized skills? BA: Yes absolutely. Worked with Mr. Gerard Jelle Bilkert - the inventer of this new generation hull. FS: What is the role of technology in this particular design? BA: She will be using latest marine technologies when she built. FS: Is your design influenced by data or analytical research in any way? What kind of research did you conduct for making this design? BA: Mostly technological researches for the engineering and galactic designs for the styling. FS: What are some of the challenges you faced during the design/realization of your concept? BA: Big challenge was creating the General Arrangement and placing the engines. Because she has totally different hull type then other marine vessels. FS: How did you decide to submit your design to an international design competition? BA: I as always thinking to send my designs to A Design Awards and when I started this unique project I said ; this is the time. FS: What did you learn or how did you improve yourself during the designing of this work? BA: I learned that design is limitless and we can improve our designs as much as we improve ourselves.
