Interview with Evgenia Dymkina at Friday 31st of August 2018 FS: Could you please tell us more about your art and design background? What made you become an artist/designer? Have you always wanted to be a designer? ED: My first education is in Project management. After ten years of experience in marketing I decided to start from the very beginning. I completed the Interior Design education (International School of Design, Saint – Petersburg) and after that I was studying Interior Architecture and Product Design in C.A.D. in Brussels. The idea “to change my life all at once” is the part of design thinking. FS: What is "design" for you? ED: What I appreciate the most is the challenge of the new view of common things. I believe, I really believe that design may do our life better. FS: What kinds of works do you like designing most? ED: The projects, where there is space for scenography. It is like a Game – and this is what I like most in my life. FS: What is your most favorite design, could you please tell more about it? ED: I am always impressed by Nendo design because of the idea cleanness and simplicity. FS: When do you feel the most creative? ED: I feel the potential when there are some changes in my life. Stability is not the best friend for the creativity. FS: Which aspects of a design do you focus more during designing? ED: The unique concept. FS: What makes a design successful? ED: I would say - the concept. But in the reality it is the collaboration with the manufacturer, which drives success the most. FS: When judging a design as good or bad, which aspects do you consider first? ED: The idea is what is valued the most. Moreover, it is not about a product being more expensive - the idea is the real worth. FS: How do you think the "design field" is evolving? What is the future of design? ED: I am sure, the future design will be based on new kinds of materials and high technologies. Esthetics is fading into the background. It is a common tendency. FS: How would you describe your design style? What made you explore more this style and what are the main characteristics of your style? What's your approach to design? ED: I think I am always in never ending process of exploring myself. I value the simplicity and geometricity. I hope to find myself in social design. I am like a kid – I am sure that design makes our life better and has a power to change the mentality. FS: Where do you live? Do you feel the cultural heritage of your country affects your designs? What are the pros and cons during designing as a result of living in your country? ED: My native country is Russia and mentally I am Russian. Now I am living in Belgium and I am absorbing its life style, culture and values – all new for me. This relocation gives me an impulse to see new perspectives and new dimensions of confidence. FS: How can people contact you? ED: Please, by e-mail: eds.concepts@gmail.com
