DESIGN NAME: Bird’s Nest Hydrating
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Outer Packaging
INSPIRATION: To correlate the other product line, Bird Nest’s oriental series, the theme of nature is assigned to the BN Hydrating series. As the BN oriental is allocated as starry-night with nourishing function; the BN Hydrating line is determined as the morning-fog with hydrating function.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: This packaging is designed in abstract way. The background is the gradient blue corresponds the hydrating function. The thin curves at the bottom represents the morning-fog, also symbolise the texture of bird nest. To enhance the Korean elements, there is ascending silhouette of brush; the selling points are written in Korean and a stamp underneath meaning ‘swallow’. The stamp and the bottom line are in yellow to complement the main colour and also represent the sunlight.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: The thin curves seem dynamic, as they are arranged with different phases. The logo is the swallow facing upward; in the meantime, the silhouette of brush painted upward with the same direction of the logo, which provides hope and energy to users.
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project started in August 2018 in Shenzhen and finished in October 2018 in Shenzhen.

PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: To highlight the Korean elements, the stamp is processed with a layer of light oil. On the white part at the bottom, it is coated with a layer of dumb oil to enhance the matte feeling, which also corresponds to the nature of fog.

RESEARCH ABSTRACT: This packaging design uses to replace the old product line, Bird’s Nest Silk. The target customer would be female young collars between 25-35 years old. They are usually independent assertive and trendy. As the product line is same as another line, Bird’s Nest oriental, which are partially produced in Korea, The BN Oriental is considered to be the nourishing line due to the thick texture; the BN Hydrating line is utilised for moisturising.
CHALLENGE: As the outer-package of BN Oriental decorated with gold-foil stamped frame and shiny-matte surface, which is considered to be mature, meanwhile, the target customers are relatively younger. Thus, the design is required to make the correlation with BN Oriental and to enhance the Korean elements, but present in a more contemporary way.
