DESIGN NAME: Histoires Urbaines
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Photography Series
INSPIRATION: Culture and Identity. I grew up in a household that was a concoction of cultures; French and Kuwaiti, Christian and Muslim, European and Middle Eastern and was exposed to a trilingual education: French, English and Arabic which is the definition of diversity.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: A juxtaposition; I was born and lived my artistic education in France; a cultural and artistic hub, boasting one of the world most creatively experimental capitals which reflects the negatives as a metaphor to my first steps in photography; and yet was raised in Kuwait what is considered to be a developing nation, with a sleepy and stagnant fine arts sector which reflects the silhouetted portraits. Histoires Urbaines is a series of portraits of a city that inspired my creative process.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: A peaceful coexistence of two cultures in one person.
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: This project was made in 2014 in Paris, France.
FITS BEST INTO CATEGORY: Photography and Photo Manipulation Design

PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: I photographed the roofs and the subject separately using a Canon 5D. Then I did a montage/collage on photoshop to create a final image using my Intous pro tablet for precision.

RESEARCH ABSTRACT: With such crossing of cultures I developed a way of doing and seeing things; a hybrid approach to engaging with my daily rituals, life and activities. Diversity influences the development and the expression of creative abilities in a person and I used that as my main concept.
CHALLENGE: Consistency of the entire series because it was not shot in the same day, as well as the angle of view of the roofs in each photo.
