| DESIGN NAME: Incanter PRIMARY FUNCTION: Infuser INSPIRATION: For centuries, drinking has been the foundation of how people interact and socialize with each other. In some cases, it has literally become the center around thought and conversation. Inspired by the age old ritual of gathering among peers and having a drink, Sempli sought to re-imagine this social context in a relevant and modern way by mixing the perfect blend of its existing design and functionality with the rising trend of infused beverages. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: The Incanter goes against traditional methods of infusing flavor by placing the infusion tube directly in the liquid. Flavors are held together in the borosilicate infusion rod that has circular punctures throughout. The decanter base is conical in shape to allow the whole piece to move freely in a circular path. This sets the liquid in motion from side to side flowing through the infusion rod and allows flavors to mix fully while keeping your ingredients separated. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: Created with Sempli's signature spinning bottom, the Incanter presents a new way to infuse your favorite spirits and drinks. Simply cut up your favorite flavors and place them into the infuser tube, pour in your drink of choice, and spin away! The flavors fuse together creating a unique experience and taste with each use. PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project started in January 2014 and finished in October 2014 in Santa Monica, CA. |
PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: Instead of a mesh screens, the Incanter uses a glass rod to infuse ingredients. The tube is hand punctured while turned on a glass blowing lathe. The borosilicate glass creates a lightweight rod to hold your ingredients without weighing down the decanter. Small punctures in the glass let liquid flow through while keeping ingredients in place. It secures into the rubber top and custom designed diagonal mouth of the decanter so your ingredients settle and effectively infuse whatever is inside. SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: Approx. Not only are we creating a new type of social context by bringing personal mixology and entertainment to the home, we are providing new pathways for experimentation and stimulating conversation. CHALLENGE: The creative challenge was to enter the burgeoning market of infused beverages with a differential and unique aesthetic catering more specifically towards infusing alcohol and spirits. NAME: Sempli PROFILE: As a contemporary product design company, Sempli’s design idea connects the best of two countries - Sweden’s simple functionality with Italy’s style and elegance. While living in Florence, Italy, Semeraro discovered the essential role the wine glass played in the drinking experience. He then conceived the idea for the stemless Cupa glass series, spawning the growing collection of Sempli products. Staying true to the craft, the glasses are hand produced by the most skilled glass blowers. The swirling rotation of the glass is both entertaining and practical. First introduced in the market in 2002, the Cupa series is known as the original swirling glass- “The spinning original since 2002”. The Sempli glass series is produced from the purest lead-free crystal, making it a 100% safe and sustainable experience. The Sempli glass line has now expanded to include the Monti Collection, Sempli’s first flat-bottomed glasses. Sempli is thrilled to present these new glasses along with its new line of trays, bowls and lighting. |
