| DESIGN NAME: Islands PRIMARY FUNCTION: Art Installations INSPIRATION: I think as a designer, in fact, designing works is to express the designer's view of the world. Designers often create works and achieve a balance between works and reality and business. I often wonder, can my design work arouse the viewer's thinking and resonance? The inspiration for this island came from music. One night, I was driving my car on the way home, thinking in the air, and heard a song called "Island". The lyrics are simple and sincere, but I formed a form in my mind Strong imagery. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: This project is a public interactive release event and dinner scene designed for the annual fashion festival. This is also an attempt by designers to express their views to the world. The installation "Island" mainly expresses the designer's understanding and thinking about "my relationship with the world". This installation is also the table and chairs for the dinner. About 100 guests dine. During the whole dinner, the guests will connect and be replaced by themselves and the art installation. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: "Island" is not just an installation, I hope people can use the art installation to re-analyze the meaning of "sea" and "island". In the interactive process of performance art, there are 5 experiencers who travel between the ocean and the island, alone or together, there is no conclusion. It symbolizes the relationship between people. "Island" and "sea" are our relationship with the world. The 4 main islands are set with different colors, and the guests dress according to the colors, which also means that different people form a short-lived "island". PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project started in July 2021, completed the conceptual design and a week of production in mid-July 2021, and was first exhibited and released at the Fashion Festival event at the Garden City International Resort Center in Chengdu, China on July 29, 2021. PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: The installation is made of wood, iron and special paper. Wood and wrought iron provide the contours and curves of the islands, which are known to be irregular lines and natural textures formed by the movement of the earth's crust and the erosion of sea water. So recovery is the key. The installation uses sheets of wrinkled paper to simulate the texture of the island. This paper is waterproof and light-transmitting, and is finished by hand-folding. There are 4 groups of suspended islands with built-in light sources of different colors, creating different experience atmospheres at night dinner parties. SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: The art installation is an enclosed type with a capacity of 100 people. The overall size of the installation is 20000mm*40000mm. The size of the individual island installations varies. The height of the suspended island is the height of the dining table. The heights of the ground islands are 600mm, 700mm, 800mm and 900mm respectively. , In order to make the guests sit on the island more comfortably, footrests are placed inside the higher device, which is convenient for dinner parties to sit. If the installation needs other venues, it can be freely combined and matched to form an enclosure with a "sea" in the center. An interactive art installation was adopted, attracting 800 visitors. Each of us is an island. Forming an island is like knowing yourself and meeting your fellows. We are constantly exploring between "sea" and "island". Floating islands with different spatial positions are set up to represent reality, goals and ideals, etc. The whole picture of the "floating island" can only be seen by those who have higher goals and actively "go to the island". CHALLENGE: 1. Special paper is the main material, considering water resistance (it rained on the day of construction) and durability. The support of the paper is not good, the paper is shaped by hand and a lot of support points are made inside. 2. This is still a dinner party. The bold idea is that these islands and suspended islands become tables and chairs for guests to dine at the dinner party. The dual-purpose device considers beauty and practicality. 3. The water pattern dynamic equipment lights are specially customized on the central lawn, and guests walk off the island like walking into the ocean.
