RESEARCH ABSTRACT: The main objective of this project is to achieve gender equality with a design solution. Gender equality, one of UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), is often discussed in social issues. New Taipei City, the largest population city in Taiwan, has spent a significant amount of effort addressing SDGs in the city development. Therefore, this gender-neutral public toilet project is the milestone of New Taipei City's achievement.
CHALLENGE: To achieve a gender-neutral toilet design, we investigated color choices for the space, circulation, signage, and lighting. These elements influence the mentality of users and contribute significantly to providing a welcoming atmosphere. The green wall at the mirror utilizes the gray water generated from the sink to innovate water usage and even more sustainable applications.
