| DESIGN NAME: 25 Nano PRIMARY FUNCTION: Ambient Light INSPIRATION: When the growing bubble hits the critical point of 25 nanometers film thickness, it breaks. 25 Nano compares the recycling and the reproduction of glass poetically with the constant recycling and rebirth of bubbles. The work uses several contrasts, such as light and shadow, solid and fragile, temporary and permanent, to express the relativity of things; the end is the beginning of new opportunity. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: 25 Nano is an artistic light instrument to represent ephemeral and permanence, birth and death. Working with Spring Pool Glass Industrial CO., LTD, whose vision is building a systematic glass recycle loop for a sustainable future, 25 Nano chose the relatively fragile bubble as a medium in contrast with solid glass to embody the idea. In the instrument, light shimmers through life cycles of the bubble, projecting rainbow-like color and shadows to the environment, creating a dreamy atmosphere around the user. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: Touch the metal sensor on top of the glass shade to turn on the light. The bubble starts to grow in rhythm, and the refractions of light change accordingly. PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project initiated in June 2019, and exhibited in March 2020 in Tainan. Design development duration for 10 month. PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: Blown glass made from recyclable glass sand by Spring Pool Glass Industrial CO., LTD. Recycled aluminum. CNC machining. SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: Ø255*216mm TAGS: sustainable, bubble , glass , aluminum , light RESEARCH ABSTRACT: Using Design Sketch, Trial and Error Method to approach the initial idea, including the aid of the Computer Drawings and 3D printing prototypes. Communication with vendors and manufacturers back and forth to refine the design. Testing glass blown technique restrictions with or with out the mold, we finalize the design with mold for medium to mass production to ensure the cost and the production quality. CHALLENGE: Putting light and a pump motor into one compact body. Studying the right portion of soup solution, the right timing and quantity to make bubbles for the optimized effect. Because of the innovative integration, design team made several prototype models to achieve the final result. In order to mass manufacture the design, there are a lot back and forth communication between design team and the glass company to make the blown glass mold.
