Interview with Nikolay Vladykin at Sunday 14th of July 2024 FS: What is the main principle, idea and inspiration behind your design? NV: The main idea was to create a more comfortable environment for recreation with a single piece of furniture FS: What has been your main focus in designing this work? Especially what did you want to achieve? NV: When creating a new functional form, it was important to make it understandable and recognizable for perception. On the other hand, it must also be structurally stable and withstand various loads FS: What are your future plans for this award winning design? NV: I plan to sell this table design, as well as continue to develop the basic idea embedded in the original design and implement it in various styles FS: How long did it take you to design this particular concept? NV: It took about a week and another three months to create a prototype FS: Why did you design this particular concept? Was this design commissioned or did you decide to pursuit an inspiration? NV: This was the result of a creative search for an original idea to stand out in the design market when launching Kai Ross Design Studio FS: Is your design being produced or used by another company, or do you plan to sell or lease the production rights or do you intent to produce your work yourself? NV: I produce these tables myself, but I'm also considering selling the design FS: What made you design this particular type of work? NV: the desire to create a more convenient and comfortable coffee table for myself, since I have not found anything like this on the market FS: Where there any other designs and/or designers that helped the influence the design of your work? NV: No. the design was created from scratch, from a pure idea FS: Who is the target customer for his design? NV: people over the age of 20 who like comfortable home rest on armchairs and sofas, as well as people who spend a lot of time standing or moving FS: What sets this design apart from other similar or resembling concepts? NV: Multifunctionality. Unlike others this item combines three items in one - a coffee table, a side table and a footrest. FS: How did you come up with the name for this design? What does it mean? NV: People usually rest in the evenings. The table looks like an airplane and is designed to help and accompany them in this matter. So it's Eve Glider. FS: Which design tools did you use when you were working on this project? NV: I used a 3D modeling program, and also created a prototype made of styrofoam FS: What is the most unique aspect of your design? NV: I think it should give rise to a new form factor of furniture and set new standards of comfort for living spaces FS: Who did you collaborate with for this design? Did you work with people with technical / specialized skills? NV: I collaborated with a professional woodworker who works on a CNC milling machine FS: What is the role of technology in this particular design? NV: Main role of technology was creating an accurate shape using CNC milling FS: Is your design influenced by data or analytical research in any way? What kind of research did you conduct for making this design? NV: I studied various patent databases, as well as the history of furniture culture FS: What are some of the challenges you faced during the design/realization of your concept? NV: Increased dynamic and static load on the product compared to classic solutions FS: How did you decide to submit your design to an international design competition? NV: I was wondering if my idea would resonate in the hearts and minds of the professional design community. FS: What did you learn or how did you improve yourself during the designing of this work? NV: New forms and functions require explanation and good advertising for better understanding. It is often difficult for people to imagine a higher level of comfort just by looking at the picture - you need to experience it physically. FS: Any other things you would like to cover that have not been covered in these questions? NV: A critical attitude to everyday life and surrounding objects allows us to identify archaic and non-functional forms, creating precedents for the design search of new forms that meet the needs of modern society.
