Interview with Vassilis Mylonadis at Thursday 27th of April 2017 FS: What is the main principle, idea and inspiration behind your design? VM: In search for a new generation of souvenirs that would bring up hidden aspects of our history, I came up with Keymotif. It is a key holder that is inspired by the motif found on textiles produced by a traditional loom. The motif from a textile is transformed into a 3D object, which is brought into our everyday lives through a key holder. FS: What has been your main focus in designing this work? Especially what did you want to achieve? VM: The idea that one's absence from home or office could be transformed into a colour footprint by removing a key holder from it's base was very intriguing to me. FS: How long did it take you to design this particular concept? VM: The project started in October 2016 in Athens and finished in December 2016 in Athens. FS: Why did you design this particular concept? Was this design commissioned or did you decide to pursuit an inspiration? VM: It was designed in collaboration with the platform “it’s all so souvenir to me” which aims to define the souvenir as a highly aesthetic object, overturning the folklore stereotypes and introducing a New Greek identity. FS: Is your design being produced or used by another company, or do you plan to sell or lease the production rights or do you intent to produce your work yourself? VM: At this point the design is self produced. FS: How did you come up with the name for this design? What does it mean? VM: It is a fuse of the words key holder and the motifs that it is inspired from.
