Interview with Li Liu at Tuesday 18th of April 2017 FS: What is the main principle, idea and inspiration behind your design? LL: Dreamy Image.During the High Renaissance, the western “third nature” was similar to “the highest and the sweetest sound is soundlessness; the grandest image is no image”, a philosophy held by Lao Zi, in fact, they are different. FS: What has been your main focus in designing this work? Especially what did you want to achieve? LL: The top realm of China’s philosophy in aesthetics advocates a natural beauty as “looking natural as it were not processed by manpower”. FS: What are your future plans for this award winning design? LL: On the basis of this project, I wish it continuously inspires me more and to produce better works for society as a whole. FS: How long did it take you to design this particular concept? LL: Nature,simplicity are always my design concept. FS: Why did you design this particular concept? Was this design commissioned or did you decide to pursuit an inspiration? LL: The project stands at the border of main urban area, whose core competitive advantage is the nature, and it is a dreamy place for those who are restricted to the rapid urban life rhythm. FS: Is your design being produced or used by another company, or do you plan to sell or lease the production rights or do you intent to produce your work yourself? LL: No.This is the first time that I show this work. FS: What made you design this particular type of work? LL: The highest and the sweetest sound is soundlessness,also the creation of emotional reflection and echo is matters. FS: Where there any other designs and/or designers that helped the influence the design of your work? LL: Frankly,design inspiration originates from illumination of nature.Currently, the accelerating pace of life makes city naturally cuts off from nature and high-skyscrapers.What I intend to do is to highlight space atmosphere through natural elements,trying to evoke human's yearning and demand for nature. FS: Who is the target customer for his design? LL: It is a dreamy place for those who are restricted to the rapid urban life rhythm. FS: What sets this design apart from other similar or resembling concepts? LL: Intentionally,using a large patch of white as background,human naturally and delicately will be centered in the camera lens like the imaginary project.It intends to and aims at offering more space for residents to imagine. And for people who live in the room that really matters,also as Ludwig Mies van der Rohe said: Less is more. FS: How did you come up with the name for this design? What does it mean? LL: Integration of art works of artist Qu Guangci, full of humane feelings inspires me more. FS: Which design tools did you use when you were working on this project? LL: Manual drawing, sketch-up and computer FS: What is the most unique aspect of your design? LL: Taken from materials and colors of ground systems to show a singly pure special atmosphere, each scene setting highlights detailed quality and care to behaviors and emotions of guests. FS: Who did you collaborate with for this design? Did you work with people with technical / specialized skills? LL: Li Liu and Kaixiang Meng,as the key designers,mainly orient and control the whole project direction and space atmosphere,as well as function analysis of design details,the supervision of product selection and color display.While, Yan Zhang who is the space design assistant, is responsible for the sketch refinement,scrutiny and controlling and drawing of construction ladder.Jing Ning is the supervisor in construction site,who undertakes the follow-up and coordination work in site. For display assistant Hua Min, whose job is to display the production and procurement of all list product. FS: What is the role of technology in this particular design? LL: Technology is just a dip on this project,what matters is easiness,and people's yearning for nature. FS: Is your design influenced by data or analytical research in any way? What kind of research did you conduct for making this design? LL: Yes,designer is rational,we should firstly meet the demand and take consideration of human's behavior and mind,making sure the landing and achievement of function and details in the space. I surveyed and talked with people around me and my compamy,collecting the ideal house factors in their mind. FS: What are some of the challenges you faced during the design/realization of your concept? LL: There are several difficulties during each stage,like various insights from each designers. FS: How did you decide to submit your design to an international design competition? LL: I prepare the design sketch, feedback from visitors ,video and professional photos,editing, modifying each of them. FS: What did you learn or how did you improve yourself during the designing of this work? LL: What really needs to be improved is the realization between the design and real construction,for some of what we are intend to express is unable to be fulfilled,then the further change possibly makes the real project less perfect as what we imagined before.What's more, the cooperation between stuff providers and constructors should be more smoothly and effectively in later work completion. FS: Any other things you would like to cover that have not been covered in these questions? LL: No,thanks a lot.
