Interview with Kathy Mueller at Monday 24th of April 2017 FS: Why did you design this particular concept? Was this design commissioned or did you decide to pursuit an inspiration? KM: Cocktails Against Cancer is a charitable organization. They commissioned me for a special event branding campaign for their annual charity benefit. The 2016 theme was 1950s rock and roll and the campaign consisted of poster, flyer, press kit, email marketing, webpage and social media tactics. In addition, signage and event program booklet were produced for the event. FS: Where there any other designs and/or designers that helped the influence the design of your work? KM: Historical ephemera and examples of vernacular design often inform my work, and the A'Design Award winning Jukebox Boogie Charity Fundraiser Poster is a prime example. My process always begins with research, often into a particular type of vintage ephemera relevant to the project. In the case of the Jukebox Boogie campaign, I researched neon diner signage from the 1950s.
