Interview with Elina Gleizer at Saturday 7th of March 2015 FS: What is the main principle, idea and inspiration behind your design? EG: Sunglasses are all about ergonomics and body fit. FS: What has been your main focus in designing this work? Especially what did you want to achieve? EG: The main focus in my work was to create a unique - innovative piece. FS: What are your future plans for this award winning design? EG: I truly believe that "Shade me if you can" sunglasses has a "star quality". This fashion forward unisex piece, appealing to different age crowds, and can be made with different material-color combination. I'm sure that "Shade me if you can" sunglasses would leave their mark in the innovative fashion accessory zone. FS: How long did it take you to design this particular concept? EG: 4-5 months. FS: Why did you design this particular concept? Was this design commissioned or did you decide to pursuit an inspiration? EG: I designed it as a part of my graduation project. My inspiration was the extraction of a specific body parts, using their curves and guidelines. FS: Is your design being produced or used by another company, or do you plan to sell or lease the production rights or do you intent to produce your work yourself? EG: I plan to manufacture it and sell it under my brand. FS: What made you design this particular type of work? EG: I always had an attraction toward sunglasses. Doing one my self was sort of a dream come true. I think that this project truly represents my abilities and aesthetics. FS: Where there any other designs and/or designers that helped the influence the design of your work? EG: Alexander Mcqueen RIP FS: Who is the target customer for his design? EG: Unisex adult fashion lovers FS: What sets this design apart from other similar or resembling concepts? EG: The ergonomics, material combination and the face its all handmade. FS: How did you come up with the name for this design? What does it mean? EG: "catch me if you can" 2002 movie totally inspired me. "Shade me if you can" is about the visor FS: Which design tools did you use when you were working on this project? EG: I was 1000% focused on body engineering FS: What is the most unique aspect of your design? EG: The shapes. The integration of the geometric shapes with the gentle curves FS: Who did you collaborate with for this design? Did you work with people with technical / specialized skills? EG: My college teacher: MR. URI SAMMET FS: What is the role of technology in this particular design? EG: its all handmade FS: Is your design influenced by data or analytical research in any way? What kind of research did you conduct for making this design? EG: no FS: What are some of the challenges you faced during the design/realization of your concept? EG: I had to find the right weight- both for the wood and the metal. FS: How did you decide to submit your design to an international design competition? EG: I think it can be a wonderful opportunity to expose my work. FS: What did you learn or how did you improve yourself during the designing of this work? EG: I keep surprising myself. and that I should always believe in my self and my abilities.
