Interview with Morris Hoo See Heen at Wednesday 27th of March 2013

FS: What is the main principle, idea and inspiration behind your design?
MH: The program taken 3 months from audition, semifinal and grand finale, concept of the program is to search a talented pageant queen from all states in Malaysia. The inspiration I had, when I was walking through at a busy street in Kuala Lumpur and surrounding through skyscraper and traffics. There are millions of people walking in the same street same place. The funny thing is in my idea is about the different height of platform idea, I was having my ‘ kuih lapis ‘ ( layer cake in Malaysian style ) that’s the idea was ‘POP’ from mine mind! Beauty pageant program always need a lot of staircase to show the contestant to present their best and elegant when step on the stage and this reason I have an idea ' BUSY CITY ' to make everyone remember this special night and unforgettable memories for winner thru the few months in the competition.

FS: What has been your main focus in designing this work? Especially what did you want to achieve?
MH: This live broadcast show is producer in high definition ( HD ) most focus in this designing is part of the set are used fine pixel LED screen to build the ‘ LED building ‘ in different measurement and height, I have sit down with LED expert ,producer and director to discuss over all program rundown with very limited time given just only two weeks time. Mapping on LED is an achievement for me in this design, I have done a lot of graphic design survey, research and discussion with the team for each segments in the program. During the full-dress rehearsal and live show, the final out come are out of my expectation. It was awesome!

After this award, more confident to me to do the best and challenge set design in future ,also hope to share my many years experience as production designer to the new designer ( set ) in Malaysia through by local media / press. Upgrading myself in set design study and others related course in set design.
